Moxa (mugwort) is an ancient herb that has been used in Chinese medicine treatments for thousands of years. Moxibustion is the process where mugwort leaves are gathered, dried and molded into varying shapes. These are then burned over specific points called acu-points on the body helping to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi (energy) and maintain general health.
In Chinese medicine qi (energy) is the vital life force which flows through channels (meridians) on our body. The meridian channel system connects all aspects of the body into one network of energetic communication. Think of these energy channels as being like a river. If debris builds up in a river and the free flow of water is obstructed, it's life giving properties do not reach down stream. In a similar way, if the energy channels in your body are obstructed due to stress, injury, emotional upheaval etc, that life giving energy is denied access to vital systems in the body that rely on it for good health.
Moxibustion is often used to;
Increase circulation,
Alleviate pain
Speed up the healing process
Boost immunity
Treat infertility
Turn babies in breech birth
Treat menopausal symptoms
Treat menstrual cramps
It is often used in conjunction with other Chinese medicine treatments such as acupuncture, acupressure, cupping and heat therapy to stimulate acu-points where energy blockages have occurred.
Moxibustion is a very soothing, relaxing treatment that can benefit the whole body.
